A mesmerizing night at Hole44 with immersive soundscapes
God Is An Astronaut live at Hole44 Berlin, 09 March 2025

For over two decades, God Is An Astronaut (GIAA) has been at the forefront of instrumental post-rock, crafting expansive soundscapes capable of creating immersive sound experiences. The Irish band, formed in 2002 by twin brothers Torsten and Niels Kinsella, is known for their cinematic compositions which blend ambient textures, soaring guitar melodies, and hard rock rhythms to create a bold sonic experience. Their live shows are intense, combining atmospheric visuals with a seamless fusion of rock and electronic elements.

Under the dim glow of stage lights at Hole44 in Berlin, a deep hum filled the air as the audience braced for an evening of sonic immersion. Jo Quail opened the night at Hole44. A classically trained cellist with a deep experimental edge, Jo Quail used an electric cello and loop pedals to craft immersive soundscapes that felt almost otherworldly. Layering intricate melodies with deep, resonant percussive effects, she kept all eyes on the stage as if the crowd was mesmerized.

When GIAA took the stage, they wasted no time in pulling the audience into their hypnotic world. With perfectly synchronized lighting enhancing the experience, the band guided listeners through a journey of emotions. Echoes, Forever Lost, and All Is Violent, All Is Bright showcased their signature blend of melancholic beauty and harsh sounds. The band’s ability to weave melodies into powerful crescendos created an atmosphere that was both immersive and emotionally charged.

Berlin’s Hole44 proved to be the ideal venue for such a performance. The sound was crisp, while the lighting design elevated the experience into something almost transcendent.
